Description:
There is plenty to say about Lake Travis. It is popular among the advanced dive training classes because of its depth and location. It has many dive entry points around the lake and would be very tiresome if I named them all. But here are a few.

Mansfield Dam Park
There are some grottos here around 80 ft. Some of them have domed ceilings which allow you to fill it with air to create a pocket of air. It is recommended that you be an intermediate diver due to the depth of the dive. Also, there is a lot of submerged junk left over from the construction of the dam. Camping is available here as well.

At this park there are several picnic tables and plenty of space. I have heard of people diving inside the dam, but I wouldn't suggest it. Especially if the turbines are on. I'm not familiar with the layout of the dam. You can dive close to the dam and do a wall dive, which can be interesting. As mentioned before, there is left over junk from the construction of the dam you can look at. Or, if the sound of the dam scares you, you can always dive next to the shore. There are many things sunk here that can be interesting. From what I remember, there is a couch, a truck, a shelf of mirrors, and other objects. The access to the dam is by shore which is a little rocky so watch your step. You may have to climb down rocks depending on where the lake level is at.

McGregor Park (Hippy Hollow)
This area is great for novices. It is a simple and shallow dive. One thing interesting about this park is that it is clothing optional. Don't be suprised to see a lot of nude sunbathers.

Scuba Park
Scuba Park is a private dive site on the lake. There are a few wrecks and lots of catfish here. There are bouys to keep the boats away. This is a popular site for dive certification.

Starnes Island
If you have access to a boat, this island has some interesting things to see. Somewhere down there is a large sculpture of a shark out made out of metal. Watch for fishermen.

Tom Hughes Park
Another good grotto dive area for intermediate divers.

Volente Beach
I've heard this is a good dive site, but I have never been. Watch for boats and use a dive flag here.

West Point
This is a good dive site for novice divers but you can only get to it by boat. It is used by a local dive shop as a training site. You will need a dive flag for this area. There are some submerged platforms here and plenty of boat wrecks. There is even a portable building down there somewhere.

Windy Point Park
This is the most popular dive park on Lake Travis. There is actually two parts to this park. Part of it is public (Bob Wentz Park) and the other private. The private part is more expensive but has better accommodations. There are several training platforms, sculptures, and boat wrecks underwater. Both sides of the park have restrooms, BBQ grills, showers, but you can only camp out on the private side ($10 fee). The private side also has onsite tank fills. There are also several platforms on the private site that may be used. Buoys are set off the shore to prevent boats and watercraft from getting too close to the shore, but it doesn't take long to swim past them. When the lake level is low, you can reach trees at around 100ft. Most of the objects to see are around 30-70 feet at the private side. There isn't much to see at the public side. Perch will follow you around waiting to be fed. Due to the activity at this park, the visibility here is usually poor. But on a good day, I have seen the visibility around 30 ft. at depth.
